Brighton International School (BIS) is dedicated to preparing young people for the rigors of both life and career. We recognize that the world is rapidly changing, and that young people today need to accept these challenges, and build suitable competencies while also attaining the kind of quality education that previous generations enjoyed. This is why we focus on both foundational literacy skills, the liberal arts and sciences, while also constantly looking for ways to give students experiences that will build twenty-first century skills. We believe that twenty-first century skills such as interpersonal communication, problem solving, collaboration, information and media literacy, and leadership require us to emphasize core knowledge and capacity building in terms of literary, numeracy and critical thinking across all subjects and disciplines. However, students in our era need exposure to broader sociocultural issues so that they can situate knowledge, form perspectives and values, and understand themselves as powerful agents who can engage with the world in meaningful, realizable ways. Therefore, our Global Perspectives, Bright Leader Program, Social Clubs and Technology and Arts Centres offer resources and insights that students need. The Cambridge Curriculum has, for many years, been a leader in international education. The modern curriculum attempts to bridge the past and future, and we believe that it provides a solid foundation upon which to build a program. BIS supplements the curriculum with many special programs and courses that are appropriate to local, regional and national expectations, and as a constantly developing school, we are dedicated to remaining open to new ideas and trends, while also adhering to sound pedagogical standards.
