The American Community School Amman (ACS) is a non-profit, coeducational day school in Amman, Jordan, offering an English-medium US curriculum from the Early Years Program (age 4) to Grade 12. It began in 1955 with twelve pupils in the living room of Mr and Mrs Ben Parker and has grown into a campus with more than 70 classrooms. The 2026-27 High School Profile reports 646 students, 205 of them in High School, and families from more than 50 nationalities; most teachers are expatriates and almost all are certified. Teaching follows US standards, including Common Core for English and maths, the Next Generation Science Standards and ACTFL guidelines for languages. The High School offers around 20 Advanced Placement subjects plus the AP Capstone Diploma and International A-Level Arabic, supplemented by Global Online Academy courses, and the school publishes guidance on the Jordanian Tawjihi equivalency. ACS is accredited by the Middle States Association until December 2027 and follows its Sustaining Excellence protocol, reserved for leading schools. Facilities include a 25 m pool, two gyms, a 500-seat theatre, two learning commons and three maker spaces, and students compete internationally through SAISA and locally in the Amman Athletic Conference.

ACS runs from the Early Years Program to Grade 12 in three divisions. The Elementary School covers the Early Years Program (children must be 4 by 1 September), Kindergarten and Grades 1-5, with project-based learning in the early years. The Middle School (Grades 6-8) combines hands-on inquiry with social-emotional learning and advisory. The High School (Grades 9-12) uses a rotating 75-minute block schedule, semester credits and standards-referenced grading, and leads to the ACS diploma with Advanced Placement and AP Capstone options.

English is the language of instruction, and an English as an Additional Language programme supports learners admitted with varying English levels from the Early Years to Grade 10. Arabic starts in the Early Years Program and, from Kindergarten, pupils are placed in native or non-native Arabic classes. In Middle and High School students choose French, Spanish or Arabic, with courses from beginner level up to AP French, AP Spanish and International A-Level Arabic; a Colloquial Arabic course introduces the Jordanian dialect and culture.

ACS teams, the Scorpions, compete in the Amman Athletic Conference and in SAISA (South Asia Inter-Schools Association), travelling to countries such as Nepal, Sri Lanka, India, Bangladesh and Oman. The three-season programme covers soccer, volleyball, basketball, swimming, cross country, track and field, tennis and badminton for Middle and High School, plus an elementary swim team. The arts include visual arts, theatre and musical theatre, and concert, jazz and rock bands, with ISTA theatre festivals abroad. An after-school Exploration Program offers short courses, and student councils run at each division alongside Model UN and service learning.

Student Support Services include a Learning Support programme for mild to moderate needs such as dyslexia, dysgraphia or dyscalculia, organised through a Multi-Tiered System of Support with Individual Learning Plans, and an EAL programme. Each division has counsellors, and a college counselling office hosts more than 100 university visits a year. A school nurse is on site. The main cafeteria serves hot lunches and the learning commons cafe offers salads and sandwiches. A round-trip bus service is available for a fee, and the Parent-Teacher Group organises workshops and events.

The campus in central Amman offers a 25-metre swimming pool, two indoor gyms and a fitness centre, and a 500-seat theatre. There are two learning commons, one for the Elementary School and one for Middle and High School, the latter with a student cafe, as well as three maker spaces and modern science labs for secondary students. Elementary pupils have playgrounds, a dedicated early years play area, music and art classrooms, a sensory room used for therapy and a community garden. Classrooms are purpose-built with flexible seating and technology, and every student has a 1:1 device.
