About Elckerlyc International School

Elckerlyc International School is a member of The Dutch International Primary Schools (DIPS). This means that our school offers international education embedded in a Dutch context; as such we operate within the framework of the Dutch educational system, unlike private international and foreign educational facilities.

As we are partly funded by the Dutch government, we can ensure that education at our school remains affordable for expat families. At Elckerlyc, we believe education is much more than numeracy and literacy. It is also about responsibility, dealing with your own and other peoples’ emotions, respect and  communication.

The international school is good only if you fit in their box, else it's hell. The teachers and management don't help the children adjust to the system, learn in their pace, with their own strengths and weaknesses, but rather try to fit everyone into their box, and if they don't fit, would blame the children. This creates a stressful environment for the children, and affects the children mentally. The teachers here are very busy and just teach in the group, expecting everyone to just follow. They expect children to already know and then just follow what teachers say. Parents words or feedback are not given any importance. The only answer you get from the teachers is "We have n number of years experience and we know the best". The same is repeated by the director of the school who always just talks about fitting into their box. They randomly assess the child at the start, and label the child. They don't make any effort to help, or even assess later. Lastly, they also would make sure that it's hell to even move to next school that they give the worst feedback ever possible, to ensure no other school gives a seat and you're stuck there. There is a little difference in nature between boys and girls and their interests, and that's not respected. I think all the activities are always around arts, crafts, and lack any variety. Specially, parents of boys, BEWARE please don't lose yours and your children's confidence and peace of mind by joining in this school. There are a lot of victims(especially boys families) still stuck due to above reason of not getting other school, or children having friends in the school, or not able to shift houses. I heard this is more in the recent years, and a lot of people silently trying to move away, to other nearby schools. This all experience we faced is for child of most junior classes. If children of such young age face this, I'm afraid how would it be foe more senior classes. Please take care!

My son attended the school for two years (group 0 and 1) less than two years ago. It was a terrible experience mainly thanks to the poor qualities and unprofessionalism of the international director lady who runs the international school, and who unfortunately, it was also a teacher in group 1, where our son attended. Just after 3-4 months, from August to November, during the review of child progress, she recommended my child to move to a Dutch education system because according to her opinion, he was not suited to international education. While our family is purely international and my child could speak fluently 3 languages, incl. Dutch and English. She punished him often and isolated him, not allowing him to follow the normal curriculum because she was certain that my son (4 years old) was not capable. He began not wanted to attend the school and crying when left alone, despite he had travel the world and was outgoing and very extrovert. She made his little life miserable and I began to learn that this school is possibly good for perfect children but if your child is not in this category, s/he will be left behind and he will not have any support not emotionally nor educationally. Many other parents had the same opinion but had overcome this person, despite her terrible reputation, and they were not in the position to change their children (due to their home location or budget limit). Or their children had a network of friends that they wanted to maintain. That year, many other children were encouraged to leave the school as per the Director's "advice" and finally, when pushed they decided to leave the school and I am sure they found much better schooling and education for their children. I truly thought that it was a good school as I heard from some friends that their children were happy. This was one of my main selection criteria for my children. Unfortunately, if you are not the easy all perfect student, your child will suffered, probably will be harassed and isolated, this is our experience. Be careful about your choices, your children are at hand!

Great school where the students' needs are handled on an individual basis. I'm always surprised by how involved the parents are with the class and school activities. Given the amount of nationalities represented at the school, there is a real multicultural and international vibe. It is common to hear multiple languages while in the corridors and kids learn to embrace that diversity as well as the local culture and traditions.

Unmistakably, my wife and I made the correct choice to enroll our son to Elckerlyc International School in Leiderdorp. We knew that the school is quite far from our home however the main reason to opt this school is just because it is small school and we wanted to have one to one approach from teachers. My son has started in group 2 and had some initial difficulties. The way his teachers have helped our son develop his individuality, while at the same time emphasizing self-discipline and respect towards others, has truly been an encouraging experience. Teachers are always approachable and have always provided timely feedback. My son has learned social skills enormously, he is courteous and respectful and more assertive. All thanks to Elckerlyc  We feel positive everyday as everyone from staff has a beautiful smile on their faces  Specially Mr. Paul Mos (Director) standing at gate greeting everyone with same enthusiasm. With Mr. Paul Mos and Ms Lesley De Quartel’s leadership school will be always surrounded with positive people. My son loved his teachers and he has mentioned that following teachers have spent good time and helped him to nourish his base. He would always remember them and their teaching would definitely help him in his upcoming future. Group 2: Ms Inez Du Preez & Ms Sue Goddard Group 3: Ms Winnie Ingolo Group 4: Ms Sharon Habesch & Ms Mairi Gillespie Group 5: Ms Christina Louwman Group 6 : Ms Joy Blundell & Ms Jackie Finch Group 7: Ms Colleen Cropp, Ms Nira Satgurunanathan, & Ms Catie Heemskerk Thank you very much to Elckerlyc International School for such an outstanding and heartening experience  Regards, Haresh Solanki & Payal Solanki
