About Deutsche Schule Porto

Deutsche Schule Porto is a meeting school. This means that encounters between people and the new and foreign are a focal point of our school life. Our school not only consists mainly of people of two nationalities, it also has close ties to other countries and cultures.

At our school, the focus of interest is on young people, whom we trust, who should learn to think and act in partnership, for whom openness and tolerance when dealing with people from other cultures or other ways of thinking are very important. This respect is one of the most important social skills, without which living together or working together cannot function. Of course, when it comes to intensive communication between people, humor should not be missing. It facilitates understanding and is part of the culture of our school.

We expect our students to be willing to perform. However, we support this with a wide range of offers, so that different talents are also encouraged at our school. Our goal is to promote the joy of achievement, through our upbringing not only to raise specific education, but also the general level of knowledge to a high level, not only in the linguistic but also in the scientific area. We also strive to provide our 12th grade school leavers with all the necessary prerequisites to be able to study successfully in Portugal, Germany or elsewhere or to go directly to work.

As a German school in Portugal, we attach particular importance to getting to know both countries. With us, not only should the culture of Germany be conveyed, but also the special features of Portugal and Porto should be addressed. This is also reflected in the fact that from the very beginning we attach importance to giving equal importance to both languages, German and Portuguese. We meet the changing times with a permanent development process. We are open to ideas from inside and outside. That is why we strive to constantly question our actions with everyone involved in the school. The "steering group" consists of representatives from the school association board, the parents' association, the school management, teachers and students who are committed to new or changing goals and priorities.

Great school! Used to study there. It has all levels starting from Kindergarten up to 12th grade. Lessons are giving in German, but also with subjects in Portuguese in parallel as well to make it possible to prepare student for a career path in Portugal and foreign countries. Anyone going through this school has very high possibilities of success.

Leaves from the past to the past. High resistance to change in the last 20 years, poor management and information systems from last century (emails and paper based). Set up and organization during Covid lockdown was a true chaos and kids not the priority with learnings not used to improve.
