About Castelli International School (CIS)

Castelli International School Rome (CIS) is a private, independent day elementary and middle school, founded in 1977 situated a few kilometers south of Rome. It offers a challenging and successful programme which integrates our Elementary, the Cambridge Lower Secondary curricula, with the Italian Ministerial one.

English is the primary language of the school. Castelli’s highly qualified longstanding faculty is committed to delivering a holistic education and to developing inquisitive, caring, ethically minded individuals who will make a positive impact towards creating a sustainable global society. Students, coming from all over the world, are prepared for international and national high schools and go on to study at universities to then pursue successful careers. Small classes surrounded by nature and the hands-on approach hold true to the Chinese proverb: “When I hear, I forget. When I see, I remember. When I do, I understand.”

Overall

We enrolled our son but knew after 3 weeks that it was not the right school for us. After a short time it was clear that the school works with "behaviourist" methods such as rewards (points/stickers etc e.g. when eating lunch silently or when eating up). This is considered "mindful eating" and punishments (e g. time-outs/sitting on steps if children do not "behave" or when they speak their mother tongue during the break/recess (only English allowed). Through this constant rewarding children are constantly in competition with each other.

Castelli is a wonderful school that nurtures children from the age of 5 to 14, teaching them English, science, maths, music, art, geography.... the whole spectrum of subjects, but more importantly the school teaches their children to think, be confident and care about each other and the planet. What's more the school is high above Rome's smog and surrounded by vineyards and olive groves. Great staff, nice parents and amazing kids
