Information about the curricular adaptation of the Al-Mizhar American Academy
The Inclusion Department provides specialised services for students of determination, English language learners, gifted and talented students and pupils who need Arabic and Islamic learning support. Students are assessed on entry and a structured identification process determines the level of support, underpinned by a graduated response model. For students of determination, provision runs from high-quality differentiation in the classroom through small-group targeted intervention to specialist external services arranged and funded by parents, together with early intervention and transition work with early intervention centres. Pupils learning English receive intensive daily intervention at beginner levels and in-class differentiation at higher levels, and the school is an accredited communication-friendly setting. Gifted and talented pupils are stretched through high-level differentiation, personalised learning, competitions, projects and external collaborations. Admission is never refused on the basis of a pupil's experience of special educational needs alone, and no medical diagnosis is required.

Arabic is compulsory. Arab nationals study it as a first language to Grade 12 under Ministry of Education rules, and other pupils take Arabic as a foreign language until Grade 9. The Arabic curriculum framework is based on the UAE National Curriculum and is concept and inquiry-based, and UAE Social Studies is taught to all pupils across the phases. Islamic Studies runs from Pre-KG to Grade 12 for Muslim pupils. The rest of the school day is in English, following the standards of the New York State Education Department.

The extra-curricular programme runs for Grades 1 to 12 and includes Model United Nations, a book club, football, trampolining, badminton, robotics, painting, cooking and baking, swimming, public speaking, drama, advanced gymnastics, an Arabic club, a Qur'an club, educational trips, house captains, student leadership and a teen-to-teen club; a small charge for materials applies to some of them. Football and basketball are the major sports and the school competes in the DASSA leagues, while competitive teams are also fielded in netball, rounders, volleyball and rugby. All the clubs and teams are run by the school's PE team and staff and are open to every pupil. From fourth grade onwards pupils can travel abroad, and recent destinations have included Oman, England, Saudi Arabia, Russia, Singapore and Malaysia.

School meals are supplied by Leela's Lunches, a catering service for nurseries and schools that cooks fresh from scratch and delivers hot meals to the classroom. Portion sizes follow American Academy of Pediatrics guidance, food is packed in biodegradable bagasse, and allergy options include dairy-free, gluten-free and bean-free. Wholegrains such as wholewheat, oat, spelt, amaranth and rice are prioritised, and sweet snacks are sweetened with dates or whole fruit rather than sugar. Parents add credit to a cashless card that children use in the canteen, where prices range from 8 to 18 dirhams. The choice always includes a meat or vegetarian hot meal of the day, sandwiches and wraps served hot or cold, healthy sweets, organic juices and savoury snacks.

School transport is contracted to Arab Falcon Bus Rental, whose vehicles meet Road and Transport Authority safety standards, carry CCTV and a tracking system and travel with a bus helper; the service is available from Grade 1 upwards and the bus fee is paid in two instalments.

The school opened in 2005. Its teaching spaces take in two libraries, science laboratories, ICT suites, music rooms, art studios, a pottery room, a learning lab, an innovation hub and wireless internet across the campus. For sport there is a multi-purpose sports hall, a multi-purpose gym with a spectator area, a large outdoor sports field, an astro pitch, an outside bouldering wall and a shaded outdoor swimming pool. Younger children have a kindergarten playroom and a shaded outdoor playground, and there is a cafeteria. The health centre sits beside the library on the ground floor, with a spacious waiting area, observation beds and equipment that includes a nebuliser, a glucometer, an ENT diagnostic set, a sphygmomanometer and an oxygen cylinder.
