Aula Escola Europea is a private, non-denominational school in Barcelona, independent of any particular ideological line, with an educational project for students from 2 to 18 years old. The school states that its reason for existing is to provoke a passion for learning, and it follows its own continuously evolving methodology built on two pillars: plurilingualism and all-round education. The campus covers 23,500 m2 on the edge of the Oreneta Park and the Collserola Natural Park, and is organised into three separate buildings for Pre-school, Primary, and Secondary and Baccalaureate. The school is run by the Fundacio Aula Escola Europea and does not adhere to any single pedagogical formula, choosing methods according to the subject and the group.

Catalan Catalan (Instructional)

Information about languages of the Aula Escola Europea

The educational project is plurilingual: students are in daily contact with four languages, Catalan, Spanish, English and French. Each of the four is both a compulsory subject at every level from Year 6 of Primary to Year 4 of ESO and a language of instruction for other subjects such as Mathematics, Social Sciences or Art. For example, English is studied as a subject every year and is also the language in which Physics is taught in some ESO years, and the pairing between a language and a subject can change from year to year. The stated aim is that students can express themselves orally and in writing appropriately across different contexts. Students also acquire a significant number of reading books in the four languages of the school across Secondary.

At the Baccalaureate stage the school offers three programmes: the National Baccalaureate; the National Baccalaureate combined with the International Baccalaureate; and Batxibac, which combines the National Baccalaureate with the French Baccalaureat. Three itineraries are available: Science and Technology, Social Sciences and Humanities. The school designs its own syllabuses integrating all itineraries and programmes, and presents these as exit routes of a single Aula Baccalaureate rather than as three separate Baccalaureates taught to separate classes. Batxibac students take part in an exchange with French students along with cultural visits in France.
