IDSP in Saint Cloud is one of the few choices for German families residing in Paris / Ile de France (there are others !). Two of our daughters attended classes 1-12 and got their ABIBAC. Our youngest daughter will hopefully get it next year. Some of the teachers were really nice and qualified. Others were not at all prepared to teach pupil with different cultural backgrounds, speaking different languages, with parents from different countries etc. There seems to be less learning pressure compared to French schools. Emphasis is given to social and cultural events, school parties and gatherings. This is certainly beneficial for the social competency of the pupil and the cohesion of classes, but also results in suddenly higher requirements prior to the baccalaureate, which is putting much pressure on some of them and pulling their notes down. Unfortunately, there has been a lot of disputes with the school management and some teachers, in our view unjustified decisions putting pupil and parents under pressure, and often a lack of sound pedagogical approaches. For example, pupil under 18 years were forced to sign a document confirming that they cannot go to toilet during tests while at the same time stating that they are not allowed to excuse themselves for absences because they are under 18 years - this is illegal and ridiculous. All this created frustration and disappointment of the pupil and the parents and prevented the proactive and positive engagements of the parents.

Sehr nette deutsche Schule. Vor allem der Kindergarten ist ein Traum.

On October 25, 1958, the creation of the German School began. "The association of the German language school in Paris" was founded. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Bonn, the German Embassy in Paris, numerous voluntary collaborators, of private or religious origin, the Embassies of Austria and Switzerland contributed to the realization of this project. On November 3, the first class begins, in three small rooms of the YMCA at 13 avenue Raymond Poincaré, near the Trocadero. At the beginning, there were seven pupils, at the end of the school year, they are 28. With the pastor of the Evangelical Church and the Catholic priest, we have 7 teachers. In the autumn of 1959, the Association of the German Language School was definitively established. Nothing prevents the enlargement of the German School into a European high school with a physical and natural sciences option. On December 1st, the school moved, with its three high school classes, to a rented villa in Neuilly, 65 rue Chauveau. In the spring of the following year, on March 1, 1960, the primary school was opened, temporarily located at 17, avenue d'Iéna, in its own premises. On June 22, 1961, more than 100 students welcomed the then President of the Federal Republic of Germany, Wilhelmine Lübke, who is enjoying an official visit to the German School.
