How would you rate British International School of Ljubljana?
I AM not one to spread hate but that school offers none of the things in the description after joining the school all I got from the half a million euros that I paid was terrible food, unprofessional employees, not understandable requests, rudeness and disrespect towards the students from teachers, crappy curriculum and disrespectful propaganda. That school is taking advantage of people who moved here for a job or by force that can not yet speak the language and want an international curriculum and takes their money and time. If you want to go to an international English-speaking school go to Danila Kumar International School, costs 10,000 times less and doesn’t treat people like garbage
A big big scam, everything so fake I can't even describe - inappropriate staff - so fake and only care about the money and nothing else! If you love your child, please protect him and don't even think about joining this "school".
The British International School of Ljubljana is an excellent school to work at. The environment is caring and student-centered, the lessons are well prepared and it is wonderful to see the students smiling and enjoying their school days.
My child has been attending BISL for years. The teachers are professional and caring. They are committed to their students being successful learners and go over and beyond to support them. It is very clear why BISL is an outstanding school and the best there is for international education and qualifications in Slovenija. I would highly recommend it to any families that are looking for high-quality education in an international setting, with an up-to-date approach to teaching and learning.
This is a school where a top education is available to your child. Both the school plan and other activities are very well prepared. Given the values and high level of professionalism, the school has earned the title of outstanding. I highly recommend it.
The school is very strong academically in the Secondary department. The classes in the secondary department are small, so my children got a lot of 1 on 1 personal approach. The teachers are approachable and professional and the children are thriving.
Great international school in Ljubljana
We are very satisfied with the British School. Our daughter is happy, she has lots of friends and the teachers are fantastic. Our daughter's English has improved so well now, she is very well settled. I can't fault the school for anything - the communication is frequent and if we have any questions, the teachers are always open to discussion. I can only recommend this school.

BISL is a lovely place to work at. The teachers are highly committed to their students and helping them get the most from their learning. Small classes enable a more personalised approach, thus giving the students the opportunity to learn in different ways. I highly recommend the British International School of Ljubljana to all families who want an outstanding education for their children.
This school is by far the worst that my child has gone to. We have been to many different schools and the only word to describe this one is just a scam. This school spends more money on marketing than on their students. To make things worse, they suck up even more for personal gain as a corrupt for profit school. They are definitely not worth 15,000 euros per year. There is a huge bullying problem, the facilities are a complete mess, and the teachers visibly tremble at the sight of the headmasters. Almost all the secondary teachers from last year left, and the ones that are staying are just after the IGCSE certificate that they get at the second year of teaching. There are some teachers who barely know English, have a low degree, and teach the extremely important IGCSE exams, because all the good teachers left. Public schools in slovenia are much better than this, so please don't expose your child to this scam of a school.
BISL provides an international education for students aged 5 to 19 and equips them with academic skills as well as 'soft skills' leading to a deeper understanding of the syllabus, wider knowledge, stronger rhetorical skills, and abilities to synthesize and elaborate. I have seen students learn in a caring environment encouraged by teachers that provide support and challenge, as well as high expectations for them. These factors have great effects on the learning process, students' progress, and outcomes. Students have time to recharge their batteries during the two breaks outside on the playground and experience different a range of after-school activities in the afternoon. There is plenty of opportunities to build on collaboration, flexibility, and imagination, as the school has in the past even organized Enrichment days on Saturdays coming back from online learning, providing group activities and socially rich content as students have been missing these whilst learning at home.
I have had the privilege of working at BISL for a long time and the school has been going from strength to strength every year. It is still a relatively young International school however it has established itself well in Slovenia. It is situated in a good area near the city center, it has a great outdoor area with more room to extend to in the future. Recently the school expanded. We now have a new modern building to accommodate students and their teachers. The students are very kind and respectful to teachers and each other which makes the school a wonderful place to be. BISL is a great school and I would highly recommend it to anyone who is looking for a school where students thrive academically and socially.
Kate’s review tells you everything you need to know about this school; the teachers work hard to ensure students feel safe, supported and that they achieve their academic goals. But that’s what teachers do. They care. They have an innate passion for seeing children grow and shine. But this school sucks all life out of their staff. The school takes money from parents and plugs it straight back into Orbital. Your children don’t benefit from that money. Most classrooms don’t have enough whiteboards or whiteboard pens for each student. The Headteacher cares more about the reputation of the school than the care or progression of his students. You cannot fault the staff. But the management and leadership is a disgrace to the school and the reason the average length of stay for teachers at the school is 8 months. The school is a lie. So if you want to send your children to a school where teachers are unhappy, deceived by their management and are on a countdown to leave, then this is the school for you. As a long term member of staff, I am really proud to be working at BISL for the past 8 years. I have seen the school grow and improve over the years to reach the status it has today. It is the best international school in the region and that can be measured by the progress made by students in a safe, welcoming and nourishing environment. Our classes are small and our dedicated teachers go above and beyond in providing the best possible learning and growing experience for our students.
Great school with a future oriented mindset. Overall high quality of teaching and clearly a school on a positive trend. Would recommend.
British international school of Ljubljana is improving every year in all areas
I have had the privilege to be a part of BISL since its beginnings in 2008 and to see it grow and develop into the outstanding school it is today. The high-quality education and care that students receive are due to the passionate and hard-working staff, who put students and learning at the forefront of their teaching careers. As a parent, I would also highly recommend BISL to anyone seeking a truly international learning environment and opportunities for their child to succeed.
Having been a teacher at the school for over ten years and seeing the developments and improvements that have been made in recent, I am proud to have been part of the journey and proud of continuing to help students fulfill their potential, achieve outstanding results and help develop them as individuals.
I have read the reviews on this site and I must say, I am deeply disappointed by some seemingly deeply disturbed ex-staff. Do not listen to them! This school is brilliant and for those who have actually sent their kids to other 'outstanding' schools around this world, and know what this should be like, this one does very well by comparison. I want to thank this school for making my children confident and happy, and providing so many extra opportunities for my children to experience. The staff are so caring, kind and nothing is ever too difficult for them. I once had a phone call to just check my child was feeling better after an extended absence. It was so kind and much appreciated. These teachers work well above and beyond and you can tell. Thank you!

Poor way of dealing with Coronavirus, too many staff in the same space at once. limited social distancing and not enough spaces in the school to keep numbers low in primary.
Unfortunately this school has a great website with nothing to show for it. Half the teachers are unqualified and the other half are exceptional but are not free to do their job with poor facilities and little spending, recently I saw a facebook post with the current head teacher standing in front of a bird box which was the entire post! I'm not spending £20,000 on a school for a bird box! The new head teacher has some strange ideas about the running of the school and if you look at the website he offers monthly 'coffees with the principal' but this is meerly time for him to talk about himself- he listens but doesn't 'hear' you. There is very low teacher retention, more so than the average school and in some cases no classes at all. My daughter wants to study to become a doctor and this has been put in jeopardy due to the lack of science teachers for most of the winter. There are other options for our children in Ljubljana and whilst other independent schools are small they can be no worse than this display of greed and arrogance.

Lovely school, the teachers do their best to really understand every child as an individual. The atmosphere is great at school, the students are always laughing and having fun. Students can get help outside of lessons as well, as teachers are very approachable.
If you want your kids to experience personalized and comprehensive approach while learning, look no further! I have to say that BISL is one of the best schools in Ljubljana, with extremely kind and approachable headmaster and teachers who always give feedback for my child. The children are happy and satisfied as they can learn and be productive in an international environment, with great teachers and staff looking out for them.
What this school is doing is amazing. Teaching staff is great, my children really enjoy their time at school and made lots of friends. I can see how my child has progressed in their learning.

This school was the worst experience for my child in the year of 2020. The teachers were unqualified to do a competent job. All A level teachers, along with teaching A-levels were also teaching all Highschool years from Y7 to Y11. This school has hired a teacher who turned out to have assaulted his students, publicly humiliated girls in the classroom. Along, this teacher was racist, he referred to black people as “monkeys”. The school failed to fire the teacher for 6 months, and only did so after the school year was over, although they had multiple complaints. The science facilities are awful. Beginning with lack of chemicals for biology and chemistry, continuing with old and unsafe equipment for physics and lack of necessary for practicals cords, resistors, batteries. The teachers had minimum experience, some of the teachers had 0 to 1 years of experience of teaching and were still teaching A levels with no supervision or advice of a higher staff member. Obviously multiple classes were dismissed, or the students were allowed to go to a separate class to study on their own, while the teacher prepares for his next class. Students were found on Highschool territory smoking cigarettes and smoking weed. Some students were not of legal age and would drink during school hours. Again no prosecution occurred, nor were the parents of the children notified. Please, as a parent, I ask you not to send your child here. My child was having panic attacks throughout the whole year in this school. My only regret is that I ever sent my child here.
The school has seen a lot of positive change recently. There is a great team of dedicated teachers and the children enjoy going to school. The leadership team are transparent and approachable, with a strong vision for the right direction to take the school.
Our three children visited the school for more than 6 years. During the years the school management and behavior changed dramatically. The owner, the Orbital group, put business and money on a much higher scale, changed the school principal and showed from this moment on different behavior. In the last two years we were facing a very high teacher fluctuation. Our younger son had in one school year 5(!) class teachers. Similar situation for other grades. It is my opinion that this fluctuation is caused by very high pressure on teachers and wrong school management. A constructive feedback is not possible. I have the feeling that parents should pay (you know that the school fee is more than 10.000 €/year), otherwise please be quiet. In our case it came to the point that they suspended my children. To make it clear: all payments done, only put the finger to the weak points. To suspend children only not to get negative feedback shows the philosophy behind. Please be careful with this school. I had personally bad experience. One more point: There are quite some outstanding teachers there, with a high committment to teach and interact with children. You only need to be lucky to get your kids to these teachers. Finally we've decided to take our children to another school.
